Puriri Wiltshire Sheep
Where does the wool go?
The wool is naturally shed, falling onto the ground and quickly disappears into the pasture. Much is absorbed into the soil structure over time returning minerals and natural organic matter. Some is gathered by birds for nest building.
Are Wiltshire good mothers?YES - exceptional mothering skills and cope well with multiples (twinning is normal). Very protective and milk well.
|
Will the ewe lambs breed in the first year (Hogget mating)?YES - we weigh and select on size before mating. Feed well through the winter months for good results (expect 75%).
|
Do you have to dock tails? There is no need to dock tails as the underside of the tail has bare skin. The Wiltshire breed is resistant to fly-strike due to clean (no wool) belly, backside, legs & head.
